Amphibian Dobbertin HydroCar for Sale on eBay

Here is your chance to put your hands on a vehicle that is perfectly capable of running on both land and water... as long as you have $777,000 put aside. The amphibian Dobbertin HydroCar is currently up for grabs on eBay, with enthusiasts given just until January 13 to make it theirs.

The Dobbertin HydroCar changes shape at the flip of a switch, transforming from land mode to water mode in a matter of seconds. Its creator, Rick Dobbertin, says the car is fully functional but it hasn’t been fully tested yet, so he wouldn’t recommend it for a daily use.

It took Dobbertin no less than 18,800 hours over a period of nine years designing and building the HydroCar, and he is now selling it due to financial reasons.

“The center body section of the HydroCar is built around a space frame and roll bar constructed completely from 304 stainless steel. The frames within the articulating sponsons are fabricated from 6061 aluminum. The center car is covered with a 5086 marine-grade aluminum skin. The actual color of the HydroCar is 2006 Corvette Velocity Yellow,” the ad on eBay reads, where you can also find other photos of the vehicle.

“The HydroCar produces power from a fully dyno-tuned World/Merlin all-aluminum roller-cammed 572 cubic inch Chevrolet engine, producing 762 Horsepower @ 5,800 rpm and 712 Pounds of Torque @ 4,200 rpm. The MSD engine electronics feature a billet marine distributor, a 7-ML-2 controller, a 3-HP starter, and 160-amp alternator,” it continues.

Safety wise, every piece of glass on the HydroCar is PGW Solex laminated glass for added comfort and safety. The car is equipped with Deist 4-Way seat and shoulder harnesses on both seats. There are two safety latches on each door, the hood and the rear deck hatch. Finally, there are two stainless steel safety pins in the front of the rear deck to make sure it doesn’t open at the wrong time.
