Alonso, Schumacher Insist F1 Doesn't Lack Show

Fernando Alonso and Michael Schumacher defended the show in Formula One, amid intense criticism following the season opening Bahrain Grand Prix. Although both have admitted, shortly after the race at Sakhir, that the race was indeed very boring, the two world champions now insisted that the show in F1 is not all about overtaking.

This (sport) is about technique, about how precise everything is in terms of the mechanics, the engineering, everything. People who want extra show perhaps need to reconsider if they want to watch Formula One,” said Alonso, when talking to the reporters in Melbourne.

In a media preview of this weekend's Aussie GP, the Spaniard was quite clear on F1's need to stick to the rules initially implemented for the 2010 season, as a sudden change after only one race would cause more chaos in the series.

Seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher echoed his rivals comments in Australia, despite the fact that he was also quite critic of the way F1 looked like in Bahrain.

If a football match is 0-0, is it boring? If a basketball game is 100-100, is it exciting? Formula One is not motorcycle racing, it's not basketball. Formula one has always had less overtaking. The excitement is still there for the fans,” said the 41-year old German, who insisted that lack of overtaking has always been the problem with F1 from as long as he can remember.

Tell me when there has been more overtaking. Formula one has always had this situation,” added Schu, who made his Formula One debut almost 2 decades ago, in 1991.

F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone also insisted that F1 will become less boring as time will go by, and hinted that the show should be improved by the Chinese Grand Prix.
