Alonso Reveals Ferrari Dream

Fernando Alonso reiterated his affection towards Italian manufacturer Ferrari soon after scoring a disappointing 11th place during last weekend’s Turkish Grand Prix. The Spaniard revealed, once again, that his sole dream as a Formula One driver is to drive for the prancing horse.

Talking to Italian broadcaster Sky shortly after the end of the Istanbul race, Alonso admitted he wanted to be a Ferrari-an ever since he was a little boy and that, as far as he’s concerned, the red color symbolizing the Maranello machineries are what the sport of Formula One is all about.

When we become professional drivers, we all want to have one of those cars. Why is it a dream of the drivers? I don't know: it is a strange thing. When you're a child you always play with the red cars ... it is a color, a machine, a brand that means racing, means formula one, means competition,” said Alonso in the aforementioned interview.

Although he signed a 2-year extension with Renault at the end of 2008, Alonso has been heavily linked with a move to Ferrari in 2010. The two-time world champion is believed to have already inked a pre-agreement with the Italian team, due to come into effect in 2011, or even sooner – depending on Kimi Raikkonen’s potential retirement from the sport at the end of this year.

The love declarations between Ferrari, on the one hand – through CEO Luca di Montezemolo and team principal Stefano Domenicali – and Alonso, on the other, do nothing but to state the obvious. In fact, the Spaniard has been one of Ferrari’s most vocal supporters in the FOTA vs. FIA dispute, revealing that he’ll be willing to leave Formula One if Ferrari will be forced to withdraw from the series.
