Alonso Not Interested in Team Manager Job in F1

Fernando Alonso is currently 29 and has a lot of his Formula 1 future still ahead. However, he was recently asked by the reporters from Marca sports daily about his plans once he leaves the Great Circus as a driver, more specifically about the prospects of becoming a team manager in the series.

“Today I would say no, because what I like is to drive,” said the 2-time world champion, who has signed a 3-year deal with Ferrari at the end of 2009, with an extra option for a 3-year extension at the end of 2012.

But it will be hard to leave F1 one day because I've been driving all my life,” he added.

Additionally, he insisted that after spending the majority of his life driving fast cars each weekend, retirement will probably find him relaxing and having fun in a kart on some track or doing something else rather than taking care of team business in F1.

I think I will prefer to spend the weekends having fun in a kart rather than doing some other job,” said the Spaniard, who revealed that the “greatest sacrifice” of every F1 driver out there is to “dedicate our first 30 or 40 years exclusively” to racing.

While some find it hard to let go – read Michael Schumacher – Alonso admitted that he'd like to spend his time outside Formula 1 supporting a talented young driver or start a driver education programme at his kart track in Asturias. While all of these are viable options, one will never know until the day comes.

For the time being however, the Ferrari-an is focused on bagging a 3rd world title (and a first one) with the Scuderia and make sure that he'll extend his stay at Maranello until the end of 2015. As stated many times through 2010, Alonso plans to retire from F1 after he'll finish his tenure with the Italian team.
