Thanks to autocar.co.uk, we now have the first real pictures of Toyota’s new Auris, and we must say that it is miles ahead of the current soon-to-be-phased-out Auris, at least in terms of design. The Japanese designers seem to have really given it a mean-looking and aggressive front end, as well as a modern looking rear end (reminds us of the new Hyundai i30, a bit too much).
From the side, we say the rear is a bit too tall for the car to be called sleek (there is too much metal between the wheelarch and the bottom of the side window), but it is a purposeful stance which will definitely appeal to buyers. It is by far their best design effort in recent years, in this segment at least.
Powering the new Auris will be Toyota’s familiar range of engines, starting the the weedy 1.33-liter and rising to the slightly more impressive 1.6-liter petrol. However, the big addition to the range is the arrival of BMW sourced 1.6- and 2.0-liter powerplants. Sadly, they will not be available at first, joining the range a year after the car’s official launch, in early 2013.
