Two-door, or not two-door! That is the question on everyone's minds these days. More and more car companies are shying away from making 2-door+hatch models because they're just not practical enough.
The new Clio is only made as a 5-door hatch, so is the new Mercedes A-Class, the Mazda2 and the new Hyundai i20… well, isn't that the question of the day?!

The second generation of the Hyundai i20 supermini was revealed earlier this week and is not so mini any more. From bumper to bumper, it measures exactly 4,035mm, making it about the size of a compact car from early 2000s. Its wheelbase of 2,570mm is also quite large, pushing the wheels right to the corners of the car and leaving a lot of room for the passengers.

In the past, Hyundai received over a quarter of its small car sales from 3-door hatchbacks, but it seems the i20 will not have such a version. Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language just doesn't work if you approach things with a cost-cutting attitude.

It's a shame though, since this rendering made by X-Tomi Design proves the 3-door i20 looks rather sporty, similar to the Clio 3 GT from about 2010. The upside is the Hyundai has re-launched its motorsport activities and will introduce an i20 N hot hatch within the next two years.
