Alain Prost's Son to Test for Lotus Renault

When it comes to Formula 1, there are at least two icons that pop into anyone's head when referring to the French nation: quadruple F1 champion Alain Prost and winning constructor Renault. And there is a good chance of the two names coming together in the near future, even though both are only “related items” to the real things.

To be more precise, 29-year-old Nicolas Prost – who many know not by his motorsport performances but by the fact that he is the son of Alain Prost – is due to test a Lotus-backed car for Renault this year.

According to La Provence newspaper, Prost will test for Renault in the near future, but the report did not mention anything about a potential testing deal between the two parties. Currently, Lotus Renault GP has no less than 4 test drivers, starting from Bruno Senna, continuing with Fairuz Fauzy and ending with Gravity's Ho-Pin Tung and Jan Charouz.

The same publication quotes Prost as saying that the test will go down “soon, in England.” As far as his F1 prospects go, even though he's approaching an age when most are already having their first thoughts of retirement, the Frenchman doesn't consider his F1 dream dead just yet.

Formula one teams have emerged from the 'baby driver' era. So I hope to arrive in grands prix within two to three years,” he pointed out.

Even though he hasn't been quite close to F1 action so far, Prost's links to Renault's former team in Enstone are related to team boss Eric Boullier, who used to run Team France's operations in the defunct A1 GP World Cup of Motorsports a few years back. Prost got to drive for the team for a few times, after which he switched to sports car racing in recent years.
