Alain Prost Meets Nicolas Sarkozy for Potential French GP

Alain Prost has allegedly discussed with French President Nicolas Sarkozy the possibility of France's potential return to the F1 calendar from as soon as possible. As revealed by Europe 1 radio station, the former 3-time champion of the series insisted that such a move would benefit France both financially and in terms of worldwide exposure.

Prost seems to be making all the right moves to secure his country another shot at joining the F1 schedule in the years to come. As Magny-Cours is – and will be for quite some time now – out of the question because of the high costs involved in a potential revamping of the circuit, Prost has now started looking for solutions.

It's obvious that a future French Grand Prix will have to benefit from the support of the French politicians, either we're talking about a potential street race on the streets of Paris – as desired by F1 supreme Bernie Ecclestone – or a new circuit to be built from scratch.

Prost's latest efforts to host an F1 race in France were linked with the “Yvelines F1 - La vallee de l'automobile” project, aimed to stage the potential event some 40 kilometers outside of Paris. The French Senate had given the go-ahead for the construction of the circuit – based in Flins-sur-Seine, in the department of Yvelines – in late January, but the project was scrapped off by the French Parliament only days later due to pressure from some of its members, as well as environmentalists.

The main objection were based on the fact that the future track would have to be built on an important farming land.
