Adventure Bike Racing, a New Dorna Idea

Adventure Bike Racing, a New Dorna Idea 1 photo
At the recent tests in Jerez, SuperBike chief Javier Alonso has discussed with Honda's Shuhei Nakamoto about some of the new ideas brewing on Dorna's pots: namely, a potential new racing class dedicated to... adventure bikes! Yes, the likes of BMW R1200GS, KTM 1190 Adventure, Ducati Multistrada and so on.
Now, the idea itself sounds really interesting and we guess such races would surely attract some crazy fans willing to cheer for some guys riding bikes in colorful liveries and pretty mcuh the exact opposite of the mud-livery of real adventure bikes.

However, Dorna needs more than a bunch of supporters in case they really mean business: they need serious involvement from the manufacturers willing to partake in such an endeavor. And that's exactly why Alonso is supposed to have a conference call with Ducati's Racing Director Gobmeier and BMW's Hauser, Moto Matters reports.

With the adventure segment in full boost these years, we might just get to see the likes of the 1200 Tenere, big Versys and so many more on the racing circuit. Even if such a class becomes reality, don't expect to see it in Mugello, as the project is to have a 3/4 tarmac - 1/4 dirt race, and we doubt the owners of large MotoGP-grade circuits are that willing to build some off-road trails there.

Since it's April 1, everything is possible.
