Abarth Scorp-Ion Concept to Sting Geneva

The worldwide automotive community is buzzing with questions about the future Abarth sportscar. Unfortunately, we are still far away from the vehicle’s release, so we can only speculate or dream. However, it seems that we’ll soon be able to quench our thirst, (maybe just a part of it)as the upcoming Geneva Auto Show will bring us one Abarth-related development.

We are talking about the Scorp-Ion design concept, a prototype all-electric vehicle with Abarth branding. This was created by students of Master of Arts in Transportation Design (Instituto Europeo di Design - Milan, Italy), also receiving support from Pirelli and OZ.

According to its creators, the vehicle offers the two main assets of any Abarth car, as it is sporty and compact. The vehicle can accommodate two passengers and is powered by four electric motors, one for each wheel, relying on a lithium-ion battery for the power.

The battery pack is placed behind the seats, under the luggage space, for an optimal weight distribution between the axles, also lowering the vehicle’s center of gravity.

Returning to the people that brought the concept to life, we must tell you that it has been created by seven students, who were supervised by Luca Borgogno, senior designer at Pininfarina and Giampaolo and Louis, Maserati designer.

autoevolution will be attending the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions presented at the event.
