Back when the first Fiat 500 Abarths came out, people really didn't know what to make of it. With only 130 horsepower, it was never going to be a true hot hatch, but it also didn't have the craziness of the classic model. Slowly but surely, people started to love having bucket seats in a tiny car.
Today, the Abarth brand has announced a celebration model, not only of this generation, but also of the 50 years since the original. Heralded as the most powerful Abarth 595, the 50th Anniversary, or 40 Anniversario if you're Italian, is impressive.
A 1.4-liter T-Jet turbo engine boosted to 180 horsepower has been fitted, in combination with a Abarth Competizione" gearbox.
The commemorative car will be produced in only 299 units, all fitted with historical logos and painted in a three-tone scheme that also mirrors the original 595.
We'll get to see the car in in more detail when it makes its offcial debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show early next week.
