Abarth 500 GB Trophy Calendar Announced

Abarth has presented its 2011 sporting calendar at the Autosport International Racing Car Show in Birmingham this week. The company is committed to is involvement with the Abarth 500 Assetto Corse model in the Abarth 500 GB Trophy.

The championship is in its second year of existance and will include six events, one of which will take place on the the Belgian circuit of Spa-Francorchamps (which also counts towards the Abarth 500 European Trophy). At each event location two races will be held, starting in Oulton Park (April 23 to 25). Moving on with the racing calendar, the second will be held at new Snetterton 300 Circuit (June 25-26). July’s racing (22 to 24) will take place in Brands Hatch GP. The before-mentioned Spa event will take place on August the 7th. Brands Hatch Indy (September 3-5 ) and Donington on October 29th finish off the list of events.

The cars used will all be Abarth 500 Assetto Corse models, assembled in the Abarth racing department. Racing equipment installed includes a sturdy roll cage, an anatomic racing driver's seat, and a six-point safety harness, along with other equipment demanded by the regulations. Mechanical features include racing springs and adjustable shock absorbers, lighter 17” alloy wheels, racing exhaust,and bigger, more powerful brakes. Beneath the hood we find A 1.4-liter 16V turbo producing 187 hp with peak torque standing at 300Nm at 3000 rpm.

Abarth 500 European Trophy is also continuing this year, consisting of a total of six events held at Valencia, Misano, Hockenheim, Mugello, Monza and Spa-Francorchamps. The promotion of the Abarth 500 GB Trophy will be managed by Paolo Callea.
