When a teenage obsession sits behind a project, the results can be nothing but extreme, and we've got a four-wheeled example of this waiting for us to share its story with you.
We are talking about the Datsun 280Z in the clip below and, to get an idea of how badass this machine is, we'll mention it has 825 HP now that it has been... detuned for street use.
This adventure started out back in 1996, when the owner was 16, with his step-grandmother getting a Fairlady Z. The machine, which was fitted with the 2.8L L28 straight six.
As you can imagine, the guy ended up owning the Z, but, at a certain point in his life, he was forced to sell it. This is the kind of action that leaves one wishing to recover his ride. Well, that didn't happen.
Instead, the man has now gotten his hands on a Datsun 280Z and decided to go all in. As a result, the senior sportscar was gifted with a Supra engine, with the 2JZ unit being pushed as high as 1,000 HP.
This resulted in a quarter mile time of 8,926s at 160.19s, something to remember. As we said, the vehicle is now detuned for street use, delivering the power mentioned in the title of the article.
The C4 auto tranny used for racing was also taken out of the car, being replaced with a six-speed gearbox.
