$40,000 Raised by the Tennessee Ride for Kids

The past weekend was a success in the fund raising for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation (PBTF). The first Middle Tennessee Ride for Kids managed to raise about $40,000 to support the efforts to find a cure for childhood brain tumors.

More than 255 motorcyclists and supporters gathered at Jim Warren Park in Franklin for the event. The Ride was escorted by the police on a 20-mile stretch of the Natchez Trace.

The Celebration of Life program not only recognized the volunteers and fundraisers, but also honored a special brain tumor survivor. Hannah, 8, recited a poem she wrote about her cancer.

"Without the support of the Ride for Kids and the work of the PBTF, Hannah wouldn't be here," Hanna's mom, Tracey, told the crowd.

The event's announced total was $40,000. According to a release, the top fundraisers were:

  • Top Individuals: Dave and Nancy Miller, $10,225
  • Top Club/Chapter: GWRRA TN-A, $14,850
  • Top Motorcycle Business: Sloan's Motorcycle, $27,291

The PBTF is the official charity oh the Honda Rider’s Club of America (HRCA), which has been the sponsor of the Ride for Kids event since 1991. At each event, the HRCA gives the chance to win a Honda motorcycle, an AGV helmet or a pair of Dunlop tires, for every $300 raised.

This weekend, first-place fundraiser Dave Miller also won the drawings for a new Honda motorcycle and a Dunlop tire.

There are 39 Ride for Kids events around the U.S. this year. For more information upon the upcoming events and dates, go to www.rideforkids.org/.
