In one of their recent reports, Auto Express magazine says the hot supermini hatch that Audi has been working on for the past year is indeed called the S1. According to the Brits, this premium car will pack quite a punch and has been confirmed for the Geneva Motor Show, which is this March.
Apparently, the car will be powered by a "230bhp version of the turbocharged 2.0-litre engine found under the bonnet of the Audi S3". Truth is, just like the Polo R WRC, this car actually uses a Golf GTI engine and the 230 bph is actually 230 PS, the output of the GTI Performance.
10 extra PS over the Polo R is nothing to write home about, but fact that it's got standard quattro all-wheel drive and a six-speed S tronic is. As far as we know, the only A1 model to have all-wheel drive was that special edition they built 333 examples of. This platform just wasn't built for AWD!
We're taking this with a large grain of salt, but is the S1 is coming to Geneva, the A1 facelift is as well. Both cars benefit from the same facelift and it would be unwise for Audi to show just one.
