Named after the British isle that gave us one of the world's most dangerous motorcycle racing events, Isle of Man is also the name of the paint color adorning the camouflaged bodyshell of this family-oriented wagon. It's not your usual grocery getter, though, because it's the new M5 Touring with plug-in hybrid V8 muscle.
Spied testing in Germany with Munich plates fore and aft, the G99 further boasts what appears to be carbon-fiber tips for its quad-outlet exhaust system. Pictured with silver brake calipers up front and bronze calipers out back, the prototype shows 20- and 21-inch alloys mounted with Michelin tires.

The rubber in question measures 285/40 by 20 inches and 295/35 by 21 inches, respectively. The current M5 sedan, which BMW refers to as F90, comes with 275/35 20s and 285/35 20s for the CS version. The aero-sculpted mirrors are shared with the i5 M60, which – as implied – is an electric version of the 5er.

The headlights carry over as well. The front grille isn't shared with the combustion-engined 5 Series or all-electric i5, though. We can also see a bit of the taillights under the black-and-white camouflage, with said lamps expected to be shared with the yet-to-be-revealed 5 Series Touring and i5 Touring. As a refresher, the new 5er sedan and wagon are codenamed G60 and G61.

G90 and G99 are the codes for the M5 Touring, whose four-door variant will reportedly enter series production in July 2024 for the 2025 model year. The wagon will follow suit in November 2024, allegedly.

As mentioned earlier, the name of the game is plug-in hybrid V8 muscle. The combustion engine comes in the form of the S68, a twin-turbo unit that will eventually replace the non-hybrid S63 in the M division's production vehicles. Even though it displaces the same 4.4 liters as the S63, the S68 is more of a brand-new design rather than an improvement of the S63 engine.

Hearsay suggests wild output numbers for the M5 Touring, which range between a conservative 700 horsepower to 800 horsepower. Let's meet in the middle and say 750 horsepower, shall we? That guesstimate would put the G99 and its four-door sibling above the F90 M5 CS and XM Label Red. Speaking of which, the Label Red specification of the aesthetically-challenged XM is the M division's pokiest series-production vehicle to date, flaunting 738 horsepower and 738 pound-feet (1,000 Nm).

On its own, the S68 belts out a respectable 577 horsepower and 553 pound-feet (750 Nm). On the other hand, scratch that because Ferrari squeezes out a stupendous 654 horsepower from a 3.0-liter V6. To whom it may concern, the XM Label Red isn't even the most powerful specification of the S68 out there. The Alpina XB7-specific engine is, packing 631 horsepower and 590 pound-feet (800 Nm) of torque at full chatter.

The G99 follows in the footsteps of two other M5 Touring models, namely the six-cylinder E34 and ten-cylinder E61. Taking into consideration all of the techy stuff and plug-in hybrid assistance, the G99 will surely be anointed the heaviest M5 of them all.
