Not even three months after BMW revealed the facelifted 4 Series Coupe and Convertible, the German automaker unleashed the revamped 4 Series Gran Coupe and zero-emission i4. From the standpoint of exterior design, Laserlight taillamps first seen on the M4 CSL open the list of changes.
The Munich-based manufacturer also worked its magic on the headlights and kidney grille. A single module integrates the low and high beams, and these clever headlights also welcome the driver with Welcome Light Animation. Only the top half of the i4's grille is closed because it doesn't need as much cooling as the ICE-only 4 Series Gran Coupe does.
Swinging to the rear end, the M Sport Package beautifies the i4 and 4 Series Grand Coupe with a gloss-black aerodynamic diffuser. The internal combustion 4 Series Grand Coupe further boasts 4.0-inch exhaust finishers instead of the old 3.5-inch units, because why not? When it comes to wheel choices, the 19-inch M aerodynamic wheels and 20-inch BMW Individual aerodynamic wheels clearly stand out above their peers. The automaker didn't forget to spice things up with new exterior paint colors, those hues being Fire Red and Cape York.
The interior tweaks are mild as well, starting with a polygonal-rimmed steering wheel for most specifications. The M Sport Package means three spokes with a flat bottom. The sportier of two steering wheel designs is standard on the most powerful i4 and 4 Series Gran Coupe available, those being the M50 xDrive and the M440i xDrive.
BMW Curved Display, BMW iDrive with QuickSelect (based on BMW Operating System 8.5), Augmented View for the BMW Maps navigation system, new interior trim elements, and new upholstery also need to be mentioned. The biggest change of them all, however, is BMW iDrive with QuickSelect due to the reduced number of physical controls. Even the climate control functions are operated via the central touchscreen.

And now for the fun part! The 2025 BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe now comes with mild-hybrid powerplants exclusively, beginning with the rear-wheel-drive 420i and 420d. At the other end of the spectrum, the punchiest engines of the bunch are the 3.0L sixers of the M440i xDrive and 430d xDrive.
BMW claims 386 horsepower – which is 4 horsepower more than before – for the M440i xDrive. Of those, 11 are credited to the mild-hybrid system. Regardless of engine, all 4ers come with the Steptronic eight-speed automatic transmission supplied by the folks at ZF Friedrichshafen AG.
The i4 comes in four distinct flavors, beginning with the rear-wheel-drive eDrive40 and eDrive35. As per BMW's internal testing, the xDrive40 promises to hit 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) in 5.1 seconds. The xDrive40 brings together two electric drive units totaling 295 kW (401 ps or 396 hp) and 600 Nm (442 pound-feet).
For the M50, the output figures are unchanged from the 2024 model: 400 kW (544 ps or 536 hp) and 795 Nm (586 pound-feet). Rather than the go-faster M50, which also happens to be the M division's best-selling vehicle, the driving range champion is the eDrive40 at 373 miles (600 kilometers) in the WLTP cycle. The refreshed i4 and 4 Series Gran Coupe will enter series production in July 2024, meaning that the first units intended for the US of A will reach dealerships in late summer 2024.
