Toyota has recently published the owner's manual for the redesigned Tacoma, which comes with 2.4-liter turbo muscle. Codenamed T24A-FTS, the four-cylinder lump requires 87 octane or higher.
The 2024 Toyota Tacoma owner's manual also reveals a fuel tank capacity of 18.2 gallons, meaning 69 liters in the metric system. 0W-20 engine oil is the best choice for good fuel economy and starting in cold weather, although 5W-20 may be used as well. Oil capacity ranges between 5.6 quarts (5.3 liters) without the filter to 5.9 quarts (5.6 liters) with it.

The cooling system takes anything between 12.6 and 12.8 quarts (11.9 to 12.1 liters) of Toyota Super Long Life Coolant. As per said manual, the iridium-tipped spark plugs are listed with a gap of 0.027 inches (0.7 millimeters). 2024 Tacoma vehicles equipped with the eight-speed automatic transmission take WS fluid.

As for the rev-matching stick shift, Toyota recommends GL-3 or GL-4 gear oil with a recommended viscosity of 75W-90. The transfer case is listed with a capacity of 1.2 quarts (1.1 liters). Toyota recommends using Genuine Transfer Gear Oil LF 75W exclusively.

What about differential oil? On four-wheel-drive trucks, the front diff requires 1.4 quarts (1.3 liters) of Differential Gear Oil LT 75W-85 GL-5 or similar. Out back, manual-equipped trucks need 5.0 quarts (4.8 liters) as opposed to 4.8 quarts (4.5 liters) for those specified with the eight-speed automatic.

Brake fluid comes in the form of either DOT 3 or DOT 4. While DOT 4 boasts higher boiling points, bear in mind that DOT 3 will absorb less water than DOT 4 brake fluid over time. As per the maintenance booklet, the engine oil and filter need to be replaced every 10,000 miles (16,000 kilometers) or 12 months. In case of special operating conditions, namely towing or driving on dirt roads or dusty roads, Toyota says 5,000 miles (8,000 kilometers) or 6 months.

Truth be told, you should never exceed 5,000 miles or 6 months on a turbocharged engine. What's more, you should allow the said engine to idle after high-speed driving or hill climbing. What kind of speed? Page number 187 of the owner's manual reads 1 minute of idling time after continuous driving at 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) or hill climbing.

To extend the life of your brand-new Tacoma, you should avoid sudden stops in the first 200 miles (300 kilometers). Toyota's break-in guide further states no towing in the first 500 miles (800 kilometers). Last but certainly not least, avoid sudden acceleration, driving at constant speeds for extended periods, and driving in low gears for extended periods in the first 1,000 miles (1,600 kilometers) of the vehicle.

Twinned with the V6-only Tundra on the TNGA-F platform, the all-new Tacoma is currently available to order in i-FORCE flavor. The i-FORCE MAX is expected to enter production in April 2024.
