A massive fan of the C8, racing driver and United States Navy Reserve officer Jesse Iwuji took his 2024 Corvette E-Ray to the Texas Motorplex drag strip for a few quarter-mile digs. The only modification comes in the form of drag radials for the rear axle, namely 305/35R20 ET Street S/S drag radials from Ohio-based Mickey Thompson.
The first challenger is an R35 with full bolt-ons, with the Japanese coupe believed to make something like 650 to 700 ponies at full chatter. The four-seat Nissan GT-R is understandably heavier than the 2024 Corvette E-Ray. The Chevrolet brand quotes a dry weight (emphasis on dry) of 3,774 pounds (1,712 kilograms) for the targa-topped coupe as opposed to a curb weight of 3,933 pounds (1,784 kilograms) for the 2024 GT-R Premium.

Finished in red, the R35 in the featured clip is a pre-facelift model, which also weighs more than Chevy's quickest Corvette yet. According to the Detroit-based automaker, the E-Ray should be good for 2.5 seconds to 60 miles per hour (97 kilometers per hour) and 10.5 seconds at 130 miles per hour (209 kilometers per hour) in the quarter mile. With the optional carbon-fiber wheels and in ideal conditions, that is. With stickier tires out back, Jesse's E-Ray posted 10.635 seconds at 126.87 miles per hour (204.17 kilometers per hour).

Needless to say, the Japanese coupe didn't stand a chance. The next challenger is a superb-looking Aventador SuperVeloce LP 750-4, with 750 standing for 750 metric ponies. Despite its independent shifting rod automated manual transmission, 740 mechanical horsepower is no joke in a V12-powered Lamborghini that tips the scales at 3,362 pounds (1,525 kilograms; dry weight).

As expected, the Lambo's transmission leaves much to be desired from first to second and second to third gear shifts. Be that as it may, the Italian exotic starts closing in toward the end of the quarter mile. It did not catch the E-Ray, though, with the E-Ray clocking 10.658 at 126.21 mph (203.11 kph).

The final challenger is – coincidentally – the most badass Challenger of them all. Only 3,300 units of the Demon 170 were produced, of which 3,000 were shipped to customers in the United States and the remaining 300 to customers in Canada. 1,025 horsepower and massive peak torque on E85 makes it the most powerful series-production muscle car of them all, with Dodge promising 1.66 seconds to 60 and 8.91 clicks in the quarter at 151.17 (243.28).

A completely different animal from the E-Ray, the Demon 170 in the video below is owned by none other than Herman Young, who is better known as Demonology on social media. Young's corn brew-drinking muscle car is a one-seat affair with carbon-fiber wheels and drag radials all around to boot.

Not only did the Demon 170 show the E-Ray a lesson at launch, but Jesse knew from the outset that he would lose the race. Still, another 10.6 pass makes the E-Ray a consistent car. Had the race been held at the Shuttle Landing Facility in Florida, the E-Ray might have bettered the Demon 170. At least on paper...

Dodge limits the quarter-mile thriller at 149 miles per hour (240 kilometers per hour) in all other driving modes other than Drag Mode, with Drag Mode allowing the car to shoot past 149 for a brief period. The 2018 model year Demon has been proven to 211.227 mph (339.93 kph), whereas the E-Ray is good for 183 mph (295 kph) as opposed to a maximum of 195 (314) for the Z06 without the Z07 package.
