2018 Mercedes-Benz G-Class Dashboard Shows Up in Latest Spy Video

And this piece of footage at the bottom of the page allows us to do just that. This means we get to see the offroader's dashboard, albeit with the interior camouflage being even more serious than the one we see outside the car.

At first, you might expect that, as a result of all the covers, talking about the dashboard of the actual second-generation Gelandewagen is a job that's at least as odd as that of driving a vehicle with veils all over the cabin. The leaked pic did show analog gauges for the instrument cluster, which, in today's all-digital-targeting premium vehicle world, is a relief.

However, we've already checked out the styling of the dashboard in the summer, thanks to a leaked photo - the shapes we see here seem to match the ones we saw back then.

That photo was missing plenty of elements, though, such as the air vents or the steering wheel. And while we showed you the silver, round vents (in the purest Benz tradition) meanwhile, we can now see the wheel - it's not like the current G Wagen hasn't received steering wheel updates over the years, but its old-school image has been buried so deep inside our mind that it seems difficult to accept such a new item.

However, an even greater interior change should come regarding the cabin space, as the 2018 W464 G-Class will be wider compared to the current model. The new G will possibly ride on the automaker's fresh MHA modular platform, which will once again show up with the next-generation GLE, a 2019 model.

Even while expected to keep a body on frame architecture and three lockable differentials, the new underpinnings of the offroader should see it shedding up to 900 lbs (400 kg). Purists have no reason to fret, though, as Magna's Graz facility in Austria will continue to be the birthplace of the G-Class.

The new Gelandewagen is expected to land next year, as a 2018 model, despite the leaked Mercedes-Benz 2016-2017 product plan doesn't mention the offroader.
