BMW started a discreet revolution in its range of the ongoing 7 Series, and that move is being continued with its smaller brothers.
The changes in the BMW range go further than a simple shift in design strategy, because they include new platforms and new technologies. For example, the G11/12 7 Series is the first BMW ever to feature a touch screen multimedia unit.

While BMW had the ability to design and build a touch screen interface for years, they did not do it because the automaker wanted to focus on its multimedia interface.

The 5 Series, which recently received a new generation, is codenamed G30, and it borrowed its platform from the 7 Series. While the 3 Series is expected to get a significant part of the CLAR architecture, do not dream of a "mini 7 Series" for the 2018 3 Series.

Just like the facelift of the ongoing generation, the BMW 3 Series will have a broad range of power plants, which will range from 1.5-liter three cylinder units to 3.0-liter six cylinder engines. These units will be more efficient and have more HP and torque than their predecessors, as all automakers have accustomed us with the introduction of new generations.

The 3 Series is the best seller in the BMW range, so it is crucial for the automaker to get it right. However, do not expect it to come with all the gizmos featured on the 7 Series.

Some of them might eventually be available on the facelift of the G20 3 Series, but the all-new model will not come with gesture control. Evidently, there’s a good chance that the remote parking feature will not be available in this range.

From a design point of view, we do not expect to be dramatically surprised, but the interior is about to get a massive overhaul. The latter includes fitting a bigger infotainment screen, as well as a digital instrument cluster, even if the second part might be an option.
