After the GLC 43 4Matic made its debut in March, the time has come for Mercedes-AMG to present us with the coupe-like take on its performance-oriented compact luxury crossover. But first, here’s a question: is the GLC 43 4Matic Coupe a proper AMG?
Unfortunately no, but it’s the next best thing after the not-yet-ready-for-production GLC 63 4Matic Coupe. The thing is, the engine that propels this luxurious sports utility vehicle is made on a regular production line, not in Affalterbach. What’s more, the engine doesn’t abide by the “one man, one engine” creed that makes AMGs unique in their own right. On the upside, the enhancements brought to the 3.0-liter TT V6 were developed by AMG.

The newest addition to the Mercedes-AMG portfolio is taking delight in 367 PS (362 horsepower) and a peak torque of 520 Nm (384 lb-ft) between 2,500 and 4,500 rpm. Furthermore, it sounds marvelous for a V6 thanks to the AMG’s know-how. Vector in goodies such as the 4Matic AWD system (rear-biased torque distribution) and the 9G-Tronic 9-speed automatic transmission. Taken together, these equate to 4.8 seconds to 60 mph (96 km/h).

Regarding quickness, it’s neck-and-neck with the GLC 43 4Matic. And similarly to its more practical brother, the 2017 Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 4Matic Coupe is limited to 250 km/h (155 mph) in Europe. In the United States, however, the top speed is governed at a shamefully low 130 mph (209 km/h). Even the Euro-spec GLC 220 d can do better than that, I’m afraid. Then again, look on the bright side of this matter and ask yourself if to speed actually matters.

Slated to be unveiled in the flesh on September 28th in Paris, the 2017 Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 4Matic Coupe also boasts Air Body Control suspension, better brakes, MB-Tex and Dinamica microfiber sport seats with red stitching, and red seat belts. The picture is completed by a checkered-flag background for the gauges, which is a nice touch in a sport utility vehicle as capable at hauling ass as quick as the GLC 43 4Matic Coupe can.
