Earlier today we showed you what the headlight of the new BMW X1 will look like thanks to a very agile photographer back in China. The new model will be bringing a couple of premieres to the range and people will want to know how they can configure it.
Our source in Munich claims that the US market models will have different lines and equipment available compared to the rest of the world. Therefore, in the US, customers will get to choose out of three lines of equipment: xLine, Sport Line and M Sport.

That would make it similar to the X3 that, as a matter of fact, also seems to share the same bumper design up front, come to think of it. Of course, the M Sport guise would be the most aggressive one but don’t expect the new front-wheel drive model to be looking too good overall.

That’s because the bonnet will most likely have a more rounded shape being shorter than on the previous model due to the smaller engines and the FWD setup. At the same time, this doesn’t mean that the overall size of the car will be any smaller as we’re willing to bet it will remain roughly the same.

The advantage will be felt inside as the cabin will offer more space now both up front and for the rear seats. Amongst the available options you’ll find an active suspension, active cruise control and LED headlights, things that aren’t available on the E84 X1 for now.

Standard 17” wheels will be offered for free while 18” ones will be available for a varying price tag. The best news for the US market customers is that all models sold over there will be fitted with BMW’s all-wheel drive xDrive system as standard so you won’t be getting stuck in snow anytime soon.

On the engine front, choices will range from 1.5-liter 3-cylinder mills to 2-liter 4-cylinder ones making close to 270 HP. Diesels will be kept away from the North American market, at least in the beginning. Expect the F48 X1 to be launched at Geneva next year and arrive in showrooms towards the end of the year.
