The R suffix attached to the Ducati Panigale name stands for a cool attribute, that of serving as the base for the World Superbike homologation. In more mundane terms, you're looking at a street-legal race bike fitted with indicators and lights, as well as a license plate holder. How do you intend to use it is up to you, but it can do both countryside roads and track weekends.
At the heart of the Panigale R lies the 1198cc Superquadro Desmodromic engine, whose performance was taken higher for the season. The powerplant can deliver 205 hp at 11,500 rpm, with a torque of 136.2 Nm (100.4 lb-ft) at 10,250 revs.
A new electronic kit enhances performance
The 2015 Panigale R is equipped with a whole new electronic kit that's been engineered specifically for this bike. It encompasses an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) that makes Cornering ABS possible, as well as the presence of the Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC).
Ducati loaded a new quickshift system on the Panigale R, and it now works for downshifting as well. The Traction Control, Wheelie Control, and Engine Brake Control are all integrated with a self-calibrating system that automatically adjusts the variables, according to the change in tire size or final drive ratio.
Öhlins provides the suspensions (NIX30 for the fork and TX36 for the rear), while 3-spokes forged aluminium wheels are stock and shod with Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP tires.
Race-ready Ducati Data Analyser and GPS plus riding modes
The Panigale R is a race-ready beast, equipped ex-works with the Ducati Data Analyser and a GPS module for effortless riding data collection and analyzing. The leaning angles are also displayed on the all-digital TFT dashboard.
Riders can choose between the Race, Sport and Wet riding modes to allow the bike to boost their performance and safety in a variety of scenarios.
