Unveiled at the 2013 Stagecoach Music Festival in April, the rugged 2014 Toyota 4Runner is ready to greet its US customers as a no-nonsense SUV in both 4x2 and 4x4 versions.
In case you didn’t know, the 4Runner, which was introduced in 1984, was actually based on the Toyota Pickup and used to offer a fiberglass-covered bed until becoming a true-blue compact SUV, and lated a mid-size SUV. And that’s exactly why automotive manipulator Theophilus Chin has decided to envision the 2014 model as a pickup truck.
While such a vehicle won’t stand a chance on the North American market with all the Fords, Chevys and GMCs trucks out there, we do feel the urge to point out that the 4Runner looks much better as a double cab pickup, especially thanks to its edgy looks. But, as usual, not every good looking vehicle must become a production car, so we’ll just have to be happy with these renderings.
Getting back to our SUV in question, the 2014 Toyota 4Runner will hit the US market in three trims, SRS, Limited and Trail, all of them powered by the familiar 4.0-liter V6 engine (270 HP) paired with a five-speed automatic transmission.
