A red circle with a three-pointed star in the middle sits atop of the 15th of May on the autoevolution calendar. No, Woodstock isn’t coming to town. It’s just the likely day when Mercedes will finally take the wraps off its new flagship car, the 2014 S-Class.
To make sure our pulse stays high for the remainder of the week, the W222 S-Class has been video-teased for the very first time. It’s not much, just a couple of shots of the car taken in the studio. But the sight of that new two-spoked steering wheel and the quilted leather dash is enough to get anybody all hot and bothered. The outgoing S-Class used to be a bit of a mobster’s car, but this one is all high class and champagne glasses, it’s a vacation to Tuscany by private jet.

The new luxury saloon is going to be imposing, measuring 5,116 mm long (201.4 inches), 1,899 mm (78.8 inches) wide and 1,496 mm (58.9 inches) tall, keeping the 3,035 mm (120.3 inches) wheelbase of the current model. Yes, you can still park a whole smart car inside that space and still have room for a case of Italian wine. But hey, big is beautiful.

Size can’t possible tell the whole story here. Mercedes has evolved its design DNA to the point where it’s miles ahead of where it used to be. The new S will be a svelte combination of character lines, and simply put it’s guaranteed to turn heads.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
