According to the Japanese automaker, the recently released Lexus IS will benefit from a pack of advanced safety features and driving aids.
The pack will be available exclusively for the IS 250 and IS 300h models and it will add the following systems:
The Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) system, which works in two modes: one that maintains a fixed constant speed or as a vehicle-to-vehicle distance keeping system.
Automatic High Beam function, which enables the headlamps to maximize night-time visibility by automatically switching from low to high beam when the system’s video camera doesn’t detect incoming traffic.
Another feature will be the Pre-Crash Safety system, that uses a millimeter-wave radar sensor scanning a 20-degree radius to detect obstacles. It also analyses the car’s speed, steering angle and yaw rate inputs to determine if an imminent collision will occur or it can be avoided. Then it will alert the driver with a buzzer and a warning on the multimedia display, while activating the Pre-Crash Seatbelt pretensioners and help the driver apply more braking force. If the driver doesn’t respond to the warnings, the system will automatically apply the brakes.
The last feature included is the Lane Departure Alert, which monitors the road markings via a camera mounted behind the rear-view mirror and alerts the driver if the car passes the lines without flashing the signal.
All the goodies will be available at order for just £1,540 (€1,809).
