The Toyota Corolla is tired of being called a refrigerator, it’s sick of being called ugly, and it’s past the point of no return where it just goes and kicks your face in. That’s the impression we got with the very angry looking Toyota Furia Concept that made its premiere at the 2013 NAIAS.
The concept that previews the next generation of Corolla sedan for the US market is 181.9 inches (4620mm) long, 71 inches (1805mm) wide and 56.1 inches (1425mm) tall, with a wheelbase of 106.3 inches (2700mm). That makes it 2.6 inches longer, 1.6 inches wider and a bit lower than the current Corolla. Most importantly, the wheelbase is about 4 inches longer than the current US model, meaning a better ride is to be expected.
Design-wide the Furia follows the recent trend for four-door coupes, meaning it’s got a rakish windshield and a sloped rear window. The Furia concept has plenty of carbon fiber components and is sitting on massive 19-inch wheels.
Editor’s note: Carbon fiber on concept that’s going to go into production with a 1.8-liter engine is what you’d call overkill.
