The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has opened an investigation on about 50,000 Hyundai Santa Fe vehicles from the 2013 model year over a right front axle shaft issue.
The probation was prompted by two complaints received by the NHTSA that were suggesting right-front axle shaft failures. According to the owners, the affected vehicles, which has fewer than 5,000 miles on the odo, made a loud sound and stopped moving. While no crashes or injures related to the issue have been reported, the NHTSA’s investigation will be followed by an engineering analysis and possibly a recall.
Production of the new Hyundai Santa Fe debuted in June 2012. The US version is being assembled in West Point, Georgia. Global vehicles are built in South Korea (Asan) and Egypt (Cairo).
