Toyota will conduct a voluntary safety recall for about 4,000 Tacoma pickup trucks built for the 2013 and 2014 model years, the Japanese automaker announced today.
The recall affects only the Tacomas that were ordered with the standard 2.7-liter four-cylinder engines, which may have defective valve springs “that could develop cracks and break over time due to improper maintenance of manufacturing equipment used to make the part.”

According to Toyota, if the engine valve springs should break, “abnormal noise and rough engine performance can be noticed”. In some cases, the engine could fail and stop while the pickup truck is being driven, the car manufacturer added.

Owners will be notified by first class mail, while more information on the recall can be requested on Toyota’s Internet recall page and by calling the Customer Experience Center at 1-800-331-4331.
