2012 Porsche Cayman S Black Edition US Pricing Announced

The German automaker’s latest black knight has just made its entrance to the automotive scene, scooping all the attention away from the existing similar variants of the Boxster S and 911. We are talking here about the Porsche Cayman S Black Edition, limited to just 500 units worldwide, of which some will also reach North America.

The company has therefore released pricing details for the units that will go on sale in the United States, with the 2012 Cayman S Black Edition to retail for $67,500. We’ll remind you that pricing for the Boxster S Black Edition starts at $65,200, while for the 911 Black Edition is of $81,300 for the Coupe and $91,300 for the Cabriolet.

The black-painted exterior and interior touches are part of the Design package available on other Cayman models. The Convenience package, also standard, includes Bi-Xenon headlights with dynamic cornering function, auto-dimming interior and exterior mirrors, rain sensor and automatic climate control.

The Infotainment package adds a touch-screen Porsche Communication Management system with navigation, BOSE surround-sound system and XM Satellite Radio with XM NavTraffic.

The Black Edition sits on the lightest 19-inch wheels in the Porsche lineup, which are fitted 235/35 ZR 19 tires up front and 265/35 ZR 19 in the rear.

In terms of performance, this special edition is powered by a 3.4-liter six-cylinder engine with direct fuel injection, mounted in front of the rear axle, producing 330 horsepower – 10 more than in the Cayman S – that can be coupled with the optional PDK transmission.

With PDK, the Cayman S Black Edition will accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in as little as 4.6 seconds with the optional Sport Chrono Package and reaches a top track speed of 172 mph while achieving EPA estimated fuel economy of 20 city and 29 highway (19/26 when equipped with six-speed manual and top track speed of 173 mph), the same as the Cayman S.
