As the 2012 Mercedes SL is entering its final phases of testing, new details are emerging to quench a bit of our thirst until the vehicle makes its debut at the North American International Auto Show.
The vehicle is set to be reinvented, as it will make extensive use of aluminum in order to go on a 310 lbs (140 kg) diet. According to auto-motor-und-sport, the new generation of the SL will come with a 20 percent increase in rigidity, relying on hydroformed beams and chilled cast longitudinal members in order to do so.
Moving this metal, will be a multitude of fresh units, and the combination between the increased efficiency of the mills and the lighter body will lead to an overall fuel consumption decrease of 30 percent.
We’ll also get other kind of technologies, such as Magic Vision Control, a system that integrates the windscreen washer nozzles into the wiper blades and keeps the fluid to reach the interior when the top is folded.
