Mercedes Benz has just released a set of photos and some of the technical details regarding the next generation 2012 B-Klasse. The model will see an official unveil at this year’s edition of the Frankfurt International Motor Show in September and once it will hit the market, the car will be offered with new 4-cylinder petrol engines.

The German carmaker has promised the new generation will bring with it a number of improvements in fields such as aerodynamics, fuel efficiency, safety and flexibility.

"No model change in the history of Mercedes-Benz has ever seen so many new developments introduced in one fell swoop. Future B-Klasse customers will benefit from this quantum leap in terms of exemplary low fuel consumption and CO2 emissions combined with driving pleasure, plenty of space and the customary high standard of safety from Mercedes Benz," said Dr. Thomas Weber, Head of Development at Mercedes Benz Cars.

A new petrol-powerd version will come to market offering a 1.6-liter engine that produces 122 hp and 200 Nm (147 lb-ft) of torque in the base model B 180, or 156 hp and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) in the B 200. Diesel-powered versions will come in the form of either the B 180 CDI that offers 109 hp and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque from a 4-cylinder 1.8-liter, or 136 hp and 300 Nm or torque in the case of the B 200 CDI. It’s a real powerhouse this one! (ironic tone detected)

Another Mercedes-Benz premiere is the new 7G-DCT dual clutch transmission in the B-Klasse. This transmission is compact and adaptive with regard to adaptation of the engine speed thanks to seven gears. It incorporates an electric oil pump for start/stop capability. Meanwhile, a new 6-speed manual has also been introduced and requires low shift forces, has low internal friction and low weight.

The 2012 B-Klasse is also well covered from the safety pin of view by systems that cover Adaptive Headlamp Assist, Attention Assist, Speed Limit Assist, Active Parking, Blind Spot and Lane Keeping Assist plus a reversing camera and various other functions.
