2011 WRC Calendar Announced

After months of waiting, the International Automobile Federation (FIA) has finally released the definitive schedule for the 2011 World Rally Championship. The new calendar includes 13 rounds, but that may be subject to change in the months to come, when a 14th entry will be discussed by the members of the World Motor Sport Council (WMSC).

Following a fax vote by the members of the World Motor Sport Council (WMSC), the following calendar has been agreed for the 2011 FIA World Rally Championship. A 14th event could be added to the calendar. This would be approved by the WMSC on 23 June at the latest,” said the press release from the FIA.

Here is how the 2011 calendar of the WRC will look like:

13 February – Rally Sweden
06 March – Rally Mexico
27 March – Rally Portugal
17 April – Rally Jordan
08 May – Rally Italy
29 May – Rally Argentina
19 June – Rally Greece
31 July – Rally Finland
21 August – Rally Germany
11 September – Rally Australia
02 October – Rally Corse (France)
23 October – Rally Spain
13 November – Rally GB

As expected, there are a number of rallies that will make consecutive appearances in the WRC and will not be subject to FIA's rotational system, among which we can name the season opening rounds of Sweden, followed by Mexico, Portugal, Jordan, Finland, Germany, France, Spain and the finale in Great Britain.

It is yet to be confirmed by the FIA whether the potential 14th entry will be placed after Rally GB in the calendar, or integrated in the aforementioned schedule.
