2011 Porsche 911 GT3 RSR Debuts at Night of Champions

Porsche has just debuted the 2011 version of its most successful GT race car, marking it with a celebration at the “Night of Champions” party held at the R&D Centre in Weissach, which coincides with the end of the motorsport season.

The aerodynamics of the new model were heavily modified, to decrease the vehicle’s drag. Further updates include changes to the suspension kinematics and to the engine. The 4.0-liter six-cylinder boxer engine develops 455 horsepower at 7,800 rpm, up from the previous model’s 450 hp. The power increase is thanks to a reworked engine management system, exhaust system and air intake housing, improving the driveability of the famous flat-six engine. Maximum engine speed remains unchanged at 9,400 rpm.

The front lip has been modified to provide additional downforce to the front axle. The front wheels have increased diameter from 11 inches to 12 inches, in an effort to minimize understeer. The rear wing shape and position were optimized and adapted to the new rear fairing. The rear lid has suffered modifications for optimized air ducting. The RSR now features LED rear lights taken from the latest road-legal 911.

The 911 GT3 RSR joins the 911 GT3 R and the 911 GT3 Cup at the very top of Porsche Motorsport’s lineup and costs a mere EUR 410,000 plus country-specific value added tax. If you already own a GT3 RSR and want the extra power and aerodynamic mods, but don’t want to spend almost half a million euros on a new car, the modifications are available as a kit for GT3 RSR cars from the 2010 season.
