2011 Kawasaki W800 Goes Down Under

Following the 2011 Ninja 1000 ABS, it is now W800’s turn to make its way through to Australian shores and plunge into nationwide dealerships, while also receiving a reasonable price tag. After making its debut at the 2010 Cologne motorcycle show and then brought to stun EICMA 2010 show’s visitors, this modern-classic bike is likely to cause a stir among Kawasaki enthusiasts.

Priced at AU$11,990 plus on road costs, the Kawasaki W800 will rival the likes of the Triumph Bonneville (AU$11,990) and Honda VT750S (AU$8,990) and is offered in only one colour scheme, metallic dark green.

The new W800 is powered by a parallel 2-cylinder 800 cc engine with fuel injection that replaces the old carburetor system, capable of producing around 70 horsepower, with the maximum torque offered at 2,000 rpm. The power is transmitted to the wheels via a 5-speed gearbox.

Other highlights of the new W800 include a 216kg kerb mass, a 790mm high seat and rubber knee pads on the specially designed 14 liters fuel tank.

The bike’s instrumentation includes individual speedometer and tachometer with classic display. A multi-function LCD screen incorporates an odometer, tripmeter, and clock. A full range of indicator lamps includes an FI warning lamp, dual turn signal indicators, low fuel level indicator, high beam indicator, neutral indicator, and oil pressure warning lamp.

The 2011 Kawasaki W800 doesn't come with Ohlins or Brembos, but it does get a range of components that suit its traditional styling. Spoked wheels and chrome tweaks here and there also contribute to the bike's retro image.
