2011 Chevrolet Malibu Receives IIHS Top Safety Pick

Chevrolet is probably experiencing these days one its best periods in the last couple of years. After the official debut of the Volt and the huge frenzy that started once the first car was rolled off the assembly lines, Chevrolet steps in front of the media and proudly announces that its 2011 Malibu range has just received two significant awards.

It was recently named a Customers Digest Automotive "Best Buy" and yesterday received a Top Safety Pick for 2010 by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

“It’s been a consistent winner for us,” said Ron Chaudoin, general manager of Lou LaRiche Chevrolet in Plymouth, Mich. “Whether it’s safety, availability, price point or lease offers, the Malibu just satisfies a majority of customers.”

The 2011 Chevrolet Malibu FWD received five stars for the way it reacts in the side crash and four stars after the frontal crash and the rollover tests. It is packed with numerous safety features, such as ABS, StabiliTrak electronic stability control, OnStar 9.0 with six months of Directions and Connections service plus multiple airbags to protect the passengers.

The car is powered by either a 2.4-liter Ecotec engine mated to a six speed transmission or a 3.6-liter V6 powerplant that develops 252 horsepower and achieves a fuel consumption rating of 33 mpg (71 l/100km) highway.

“The Chevrolet Malibu offers consumers a tremendous value, impressive fuel economy, class-leading safety features, and an unexpected amount of standard features that separate it from the competition,” said Jon Hahn, Chevrolet Malibu marketing manager.
