Despite the financial difficulties experienced by most auto manufacturers in the world, German carmaker BMW today announced that 2008 will represent one of the most successful years in its history, with sales following the same increasing trend. BMW M delivered no less than 22,340 cars vehicles worldwide as of November 2008, compared to “only” 14,092 units reported in the same period of the previous year. In addition, the German company reported 16,150 sold units between January and August 2008, 22 more vehicles than in the first eight months of 2007.

BMW explains that these impressive sales were mainly a result of “the unique driving experience offered by a BMW M model” which remains “a persuasive factor for customers who wish to express a passion for top performance in the choice of their vehicle.” Although final 2008 figures will become available in January 2009, BMW
admits that this year is going to be one of the most successful in BMW M's 30-year history.

"The fact that our dealers were able to supply significantly more vehicles than the average of the last nine months even in such dramatic times for the world economy demonstrates the fascination and attraction which BMW M automobiles exercise on our customers," explains Ludwig Willisch, President of BMW M GmbH.

Contrary to the poor evolution of the market, BMW reports record sales in several regions where domestic carmakers struggle to remain in business and scream for government help. But this isn't necessarily an amazing fact because even United States officials admitted that local companies, including the three giants General Motors, Chrysler and Ford, should adopt European-like market strategy that could help them re-become important players in the automotive industry.
