Belgium’s Spa Francochamps was the venue where an amazing demonstration of driving skill and reflexes was caught on camera, during a very rainy F2 race. While 19 year-old driver Dino Zamparelli was just driving along (at 250 km/h / 155 mph) on one of Spa’s famous straights, all of a sudden, out of the myst, he saw cars stopped in the middle of the track.
What happened next? Well, let’s just say that it was one of the most impressive pieces of driving we have ever seen caught on camera. He only has but a split-second to react, after having seen the ‘roadblock’ and he does so, swerving to the left and onto the grass, passing two more cars on the grass, then oversteering the car back on the track as if nothing had happened. While some of the video’s comments are less than positive, accusing Dino of ignoring a yellow flag, he goes on to defend himself, saying: “Actually just to clarify – we had already passed the incident that caused theÿ yellow flags and for theÿ safety car boards to come out. If you look at the car ahead, he was actually pulling away from me up eau rouge, because we were trying to catch up to the safety car. Someone then slowed down on the straight line after eau rouge and that caused everyone to bunch up...so my reactions were not to a yellow flag situation, but to another incident which had just occurred."

This amazing piece of skill should be shown to every body, studied, analyzed and understood, so that it could be taught to the public, and instead of investing billions in crumple zones, airbags, bodily reinforcements and anti-whiplash headrests, maybe a new and different approach is needed to reduce the number of accidents on public roads - teach drivers proper driving techniques (kind of like what they do in Northern Europe, but more advanced), as it would save more lives than airbags ever could, while also looking cool in the process.
