150 MPH Mercedes-Benz E300 Diesel-Hybrid Gets UK Pricing

The Mercedes-Benz E300 BlueTec hybrid has just gotten its official UK pricing information. First off, the question on everybody’s mind - what is the price? Well, it starts off at £39,645 in saloon form, while the estate is, as expected, more expensive, at £41,435.

This new E300 diesel hybrid’s main selling point, will be the extremely good fuel economy figures it can achieve, along with its 7.5-second (7.8 for the estate) 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint time, as well as its top speed of 150 mph (240 km/h). From an economy standpoint, the manufacturer gives a claimed figure of 65.7 mpg (4.2 l/100km), for the sedan, with the estate getting a marginally poorer result.

It achieves all those figures with the aid of Mercedes’ now familiar 2.1-liter diesel engine, taken out of the E250 CDI, an engine which puts out 204 hp and 368 lb-ft (500 Nm), which is boosted by a small electric motor, mounted inside the seven-speed automatic gearbox, producing 27 hp. The diesel engine alone achieves power and torque figures similar to what V6 engines got a few years ago, and this engine, now powers lots of their cars, including the S-Class and the ML luxury SUV.

Being an E-Class, you’d expect the car to come with lots of equipment - and it does. One curious option are the 16-inch wheels (17-inch ones come as standard) which help reduce CO2 ratings, which are 109 g/Km for the sedan and 116 g/km for the estate. When it comes to BIK rates, these are in the 12% region, so it should be widely accepted by company car drivers as a very good alternative.
