130 MPH Nurburgring Tire Blowout Leaves VW Golf Wingless, Driver Stays Ice-Cool

The video allows us to see the Golf flying on the Nordschleife when, suddenly, the right front tire decides to give up. As you can imagine, such an event can't go unnoticed, with the aural side of the moment being enough to alert anybody inside or around the car of the problem.

Oh, and by the way, this isn't your average Mk II Volkswagen Golf beater enjoying a moment of "glory" during a Touristenfahrten (Tourist Days) event. Oh no. Instead, we're dealing with a car that has gone through an overly serious track preparation process.

In fact, you'll notice the passenger inviting the driver to keep going, explaining that the limited slip diff should prevent the car from losing power due to the dead rubber.

However, the man behind the wheel stops to asses the damage and that's when we get to see a strong reaction from him, as the guy notices the missing front wing. Alas, the blowout also took out the wheel well, as well as a part of the front bumper, along with the a bit of the hefty diffuser that had been fitted to the car.

Aside from the... safe landing delivered thanks to the driver maintaining his calm, there's another lesson to be learned here. This has to do with the fact that, willing to prevent a potential crash, the man only stopped when he considered it was safe, while rushing in order to keep the car on the side of the track for as little time as possible.
