While BMW had the M and Mercedes-Benz had the AMG, the British Jaguar-Land Rover had the SVR, which produced high-performance vehicles for these two brands, and the F-Type SVR was a perfect example of what this special department could do.

Jaguar launched the SVR version of the F-Type in 2016 as the most powerful Jaguar to that date. Thus, besides the sexy styling, the sporty coupe also provided impressive performances. In addition, the interior was luxurious.

Unlike its regular F-Type sibling, the SVR version featured a new front fascia fitted with enlarged side scoops in the lower bumper to cool the massive front brakes. Jaguar installed extracting vents on the front fenders to release the air trapped inside the wheel wells, thus reducing the aerodynamic lift at higher speeds. Another significant change was at the back, where the SVR received a quad exhaust system instead o the twin pipes offered on the rest of the F-Type range. Finally, to complete the car's sporty image, Jaguar added a wing on the trunk.

The cabin was fit for two passengers, with bucket-type seats that could hold their occupants during high-speed cornering. Atop the center stack, the automaker installed an eight-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system that could've been paired with a dedicated app, which allowed the owner to start the engine, locate the vehicle, and precondition the car before driving it right from their smartphones or smartwatches.

Under the hood, Jaguar's Special Vehicle Operations department (SVR) installed a supercharged V8 engine that sent the power in all corners via an eight-speed automatic transmission. Even though it was slightly slower than its coupe sibling, the SVR Roadster offered performances that could fit in the supercar territory.

SVR is for Jaguar what AMG is for Mercedes-Benz or M for BMW. But it is British and the three letters translate into Special Vehicle and Racing, even though the team that is preparing it is called Special Vehicle Operations. In 2017, the British brand introduced the F-Type Roadster SVR.

The F-Type SVR is a mix of sexy styling and massive force from a supercharged V8 with a 5.0-liter displacement. The engine cranks out 575 hp and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque. It is mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox and the model is all-wheel-drive with a fixed 37:63 torque distribution to the wheels. In this configuration, the maximum speed is 300 kph (186.4 mph) and the 0-100 kph (0-62 mph) acceleration time is 3.7 seconds.

The interior is cozy and fit for two passengers. The bucket-type seats will hold their occupants while hard cornering. The infotainment system doesn't care for Apple CarPlay nor Android Auto, but it does have a connection with smartphones via a specially dedicated app. The sound system includes a 700 W Meridian unit, good enough for a concert in the parking lot.

Since the car comes fitted with big, fat, 255/35 R20 tires up front and 295/30 R20 in the rear, the cornering speeds can be high. The F-Type SVR is also fitted with very good electronics to keep the vehicle well-planted, with the car even slightly braking the inside wheels when cornering to simulate torque vectoring.
