Japanese manufacturer's Nissan joint venture with Chinese company Zhengzhou (ZNA) announced today the release of a new "high-end light commercial vehicle" on the local market, the NT400 Cabstar.
According to its manufacturers, the LCV has been heavily modified to meet the needs of the Chinese buyers. Unfortunately, no specific details about the changes have been released by Zhengzhou Nissan, apart from the fact that the LCV is powered by the Chinese built ZD30 diesel engine and will come in 15 different configurations.
"With its high quality and advanced technology, NT400 Cabstar will satisfy many of the unmet needs of Chinese customers," Harumi Okazaki, DFL vice president said in a release. "We believe this is the right time to launch Nissan's global light duty truck in China, where the market is growing rapidly."
The LCV is part of the Dongfeng Motor – Nissan (DFL) strategy for the Chinese market. The NT400 is the first Nissan branded LCV to be introduced in China since Zhengzhou joined DFL.
"The launch of Cabstar is a new milestone for ZNA to accelerate its unique dual-brand LCV strategy in China," Guo Zhenfu, general manager of ZNA added. "Cabstar offers best-in-class quality, durability and reliability, along with the most economical total cost of ownership in the light duty truck segment."
The NT400 is priced in between $20,467 and $22,370 and will be sold through ZNA's dealership network.
The European version of the Cabstar has been named the UK Van & Light Truck Best Truck in 2007 and received the "Good Design" Award 2008 in Japan and "The Best Logistic Recommended Equipment of 2009" in China.
