Previously known as MyGig, the Chrysler Uconnect infotainment system is now available in multiple shapes and sizes on models ranging from the Fiat 500 and Alfa Romeo MiTo to the Ram HD pickup truck range. Over the years, engineers bettered the quirky infotainment system, but the 2016 model year update is the best one yet, at least in terms of ease of use.
FCA US LLC announced that the latest version of the Uconnect 8.4 system is available on 2016MY vehicles such as the Chrysler 200 and 300, Dodge Challenger, Charger, Durango and Viper, Jeep Cherokee and the Grand Cherokee, as well as the Ram 1500, HD and Chassis Cab models. It’s almost certain that the 2016 Alfa Romeo Giulia will also benefit from Uconnect 8.4.
Internally designated Uconnect 8.4AN, the 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system adds five big updates for the 2016 model year. Other than the improved voice recognition accuracy and noise cancellation software, a Do Not Disturb feature has been added for drivers who don’t want to be interrupted from driving. An automatic “Reply with Text Message” feature complements the aforementioned DND feature.
As it’s the case with modern infotainment system, Siri Eyes Free has been added for good measure. Compatible with devices from the Apple iPhone 4S onwards, Siri Eyes Free can do many things, including turn-by-turn navigation. One other feature inspired by the world of smartphones is a Drag and Drop menu bar, which lets drivers personalize the touchscreen controls to their liking. Anything else?
Why yes! On 2016 model year vehicles, SiriusXM Radio now boasts Tune Start. This feature starts the song from the beginning when passengers and drivers switch between their favorite pre-set satellite radio channels. As for the last mentionable update for the Uconnect 8.4AN infotainment system, we now get a Vehicle User Guide feature that will roll out with the 2016 Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger and Challenger.
