June 25th could be the day when Peugeot gets its pulse back. The French carmaker has promised to reveal a new performance model based on the 308 during the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2015. All signs point toward the 308 GTI, which will be joined by the ridiculously cool 500 horsepower R HYbrid concept you see above.
Fans have been demanding Peugeot to launch a rival for the Golf GTI ever since they got their first taste of the new 308. That could finally happen in Goodwood, where the model will also go up the famous hill circuit.

So far, no details have been revealed, but the 1.6-liter turbo engine is almost certain to be found under the bonnet. The output should be somewhere close to the 270 horsepower mark, or just below that. Suspension, transmission and brakes will all be upgraded.

While we're 90% sure the 308 GTi will be shown in Goodwood, we're not convinced it will be fully revealed. Other companies have done this in the past, launching camouflaged prototypes up and down the track and later revealing how the record laps were achieved.

Goodwood Festival of Speed and Moving Motor Show founder, Lord March, said: “Since we launched the Moving Motor Show in 2010, it has gone from strength to strength and the fact that major manufacturers like Peugeot are now using it to host global reveals is testament to how far the event has already come."

Also scheduled to be shown is the 308 R HYbrid, which will be making its European debut after being shown at the Shanghai Auto Show. Celebrating the 30th anniversary of Peugeot’s World Rally Championship Group B title, the 205 T16 will take to the stage, followed by the 208 WRX and 2008 DKR Dakar racing machine with its new 3-liter twin-turbo V6 diesel.
