New Ducati Maxi Scooter in the Works [Rumor]

After the mind-blowing Diavel power cruiser unveiled at the 2010 EICMA show a couple of weeks ago, Italian manufacturer Ducati is rumored to prepare a different two-wheeled motorized vehicle in the near future. In fact, the Bolognese-based company could bring a maxi scooter to the market, Ducati News Today brought to our attention.

According to the aforementioned source, last year Ducati’s Director of Marketing, Diego Sgorbati said in an interview that Ducati is considering a scooter.

“Ducati is looking at many segments, scooters, custom, enduro, off-road… it’s a normal expansion. Before going down one road though we look at all the potential barriers, technological and distribution related. For example, how many of our dealers can sell a superbike, as well as a motocross bike? Also, does it match the “soul” of the brand, does it make sense. What worked 20 years ago might not make sense today,“
Sgorbati told Motoblog.it at the time.

Now it appears that Warren Lee, the official Australian Ducati importer said that “Ducati is looking at a scooter, but a high-performance model, not a 50cc price-driven thing. It’s on the backburner at the moment. Maybe after 2010. It’s just simmering at the moment.”

Lee also said that Ducati wouldn't rule out electric engines, but said there was nothing definite yet. “Manufacturers are all experimenting with different powerplants," he said.

The thing is Ducati is not the only major manufacturer to think maxi scooters right now, as BMW and Honda have already showed us their Concept C and Mid Concept, respectively.

Feel free to envision the next Ducati scooter and share with us by using the comment section below this article.
