Mercedes is systematically replacing its 6.2-liter V8 unit with a twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 in all of its performance models, but it looks like the naturally aspirated monster will go out with a bang. For a while now, we’ve known that the Germans are readying a hardcore version in the form of the SLS Black Series.
Now German magazine AutoBild adds more fuel to the rumors around the most powerful SLS, saying the 6.2-liter is being tuned to produce 650 horsepower. That’s about 70 more than the standard car has, but it won’t be enough to challenge a Ferrari 458 or Aventador. Fortunately, a new SLS is in the works right now.
The king of all SLS models will reportedly com not just as a coupe, like the one seen in the latest spyshots, but also as a Roadster. In other good news, it won’t cost nearly as much as was rumored, but you’ll still have to empty your bank account of €260,000 when it arrives in 2013.
