You may remember the rather clever Hiriko Fold, an excellent EV urban solution, useful for the most congested urban centers in Europe, as well as the world. Thankfully, it is not ironically named, like other cars, and the ‘Fold’ name genuinely means the car is able to fold itself to use up as little space as possible.
This rather special MIT-designed EV will be built in Spain and it is expected to be launched in 2013, with a price tag of around €12,500 ($15,500). While that may seem expensive for a 60 km/h (40 mph) EV, at first, we say it is worth it, at least for the amount of technology and its unique and very clever design.
Firstly, there’s the folding mechanism which is genuinely useful (1.6 meters long when folded), secondly there’s the four-wheel steering which wasn’t even necessary, considering the already small wheelbase - nevertheless, it’s good to have, as it will get you out of jams you never even dreamed of.
Factoring in the fact that it’s electric and does not emit anything, while also having a claimed range of 120 km (75 miles), we must admit to looking forward to seeing it enter production, and, eventually, driving one.
