While Fiat (and Chrysler) have been reticent about launching an electric version of the popular 500, California state laws, rules and regulations have forced them to do so. It does away with any conventional powerplant, replacing it with a 100 hp electric motor, which drives the front wheels.
Now, Fiat have announced that they will be unveiling the electric 500 at the LA Auto Show, which is set to begin on November 28th for the press, and two days later for the public. The 500E will not be mass-produced, but rather they will make just enough of them to comply with regulations.

We honestly don`t really have high hopes for this car, as Fiat is not at all interested in making it class leading (in the realm of EVs, that is) - they just want to make it and get things over with. If it does turn out to actually be highly-competent, then perhaps it will sell well as well, and prompt Fiat to do something about it, like putting it into steady production - we say it would prove very popular.
