Crossovers and SUVs are more popular than ever these days, yet some people, including me, prefer a good old longroof over a high-riding driving position. The 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class estate isn’t just a break from the norm, but a complete family hauler.
Slated to go on sale in Germany next month, the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Klasse T-Modell will eventually hit U.S. dealerships in early 2017. Indeed, the North American-spec 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Wagon will be the sole German luxury wagon available in the mid-sized segment. In twin-turbo V6-powered E400 Wagon guise, the family-oriented machine will offer a third-row folding bench seat as standard.

Because this is a longroof, one of the most important details is the size of the trunk. The 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Wagon boasts 670 liters or 23.66 cubic feet. That’s 25 liters or 0.88 cubic feet less than the outgoing model. On the upside, it’s more cavernous than the Audi A6 Avant (by 105 L or 3.7 cuFT) and the BMW 5 Series Touring (by 110 L or 3.88 cuFT). If you fold the rear seats down, load capacity increases to 1,820 L (64.27 cuFT). That's 130 L (4.59 cuFT) less than before.

"The new Wagon is as dynamic as the Mercedes-Benz brand and as spacious as our customers expect. Intelligent features such as the cargo position for the rear seat backrest with its 40:20:40 split as standard allow even better use to be made of the generous load-carrying capacity,"
said Ola Kallenius, member of the board of management at Daimler and responsible for Mercedes-Benz Cars marketing & sales. "And what is more, the Wagon obviously has all the innovations of the new E-Class – the most intelligent executive sedan in the world.”

Just like the current E-Class Wagon and all its predecessors, going back to the S123, the 2017 model year comes with rear air suspension as standard. Regarding payload and towing capacity, you’re looking at 745 kg (1,642 lbs) and 2,100 kg (4,629 lbs), respectively. More information on the new model is available in the release below.

Expect an AMG E63 Wagon with a twin-turbo V8 under its hood to follow suit in the near future.
